WHY MODULAR RAMPS
“Why would I want a modular aluminum ramp when I could build one out of wood” is the age-old competing materials question in the land of ramps. This is not an article to negate the relevance and majesty of wood. It is an article to highlight important, often overlooked features of aluminum ramps and to suggest how these type of ramps have a distinct performance advantage.
- Speed of Delivery: There’s no question an aluminum modular ramp system requires far less time and labour than any of its competitors. Often times, client needs a ramp and needs one, proverbially speaking, yesterday. A qualified ramp installation team will be done and gone before a capable contractor has even finished their rough framing. Most modular ramp installations take a half day with two installers. A finished product, safely installed in half a day’s time, in rainy or sunny weather, is a huge advantage of modular ramp systems.
- Safety through consistency: The variability of wood ramps gives the end user essentially, a custom finished product for their home. There’s nothing wrong with custom. With custom you get variability from house to house, contractor to contractor and from configuration to configuration. However, when it comes to your safety, you don’t want variability. The consistency in modular ramp systems, gives the user peace of mind. The safety features built into the ramp components will always be there in every installation. For example, the non-skid surface, safety lip, two-line handrails and gap transitions will always be significant advantage in safety of modular ramp system.
- Countless Configurations: The components that are part of any larger run of ramp, allow for configuration options. That being said, there is no equipment based limitation as to how a modular ramp sets up at a site. The only limitation is the amount of space usable on the property. You could have a ramp on the exterior of a house one day, and the next day, conceivably install those same ramp components inside a garage in a different configuration, all while maintaining safety and ease of use. Flexibility gives the user options. In handling accessibility challenges, it’s good to have options.
Delivery time, safety and flexibility are only 3 of the distinct advantages of modular ramps. Aluminum modular ramps are not new. The concepts and principles have existed for decades. It is the systems humans integrate to back these products that advances the cause for the better. Tune into the next part of this blog that discusses the system of “rental ramps”
